I recently stayed at the Xiyuan Hotel in Beijing during my tour, and while it had some strong points, there were definitely areas that needed improvement. The breakfast was a highlight with a good mix of Chinese and Western food, and I enjoyed the pleasant views from the revolving restaurant. However, my room had its quirks, and I encountered some issues with cleanliness and staff communication. Overall, it was a decent stay but not without frustrations.

Rooms
6.0
My first room was decent in size but a bit tired, featuring some signs of dampness and mold in the grout. However, my second room on the 7th floor was a lovely upgrade with a spacious layout and a nice bathroom.
Service
5.0
The hotel staff were generally obliging, but I had some struggles with language barriers. Sometimes it felt like they were not as friendly or helpful as I would’ve liked, which made things a bit difficult.
Location
7.0
The hotel is situated away from the city center but is close to attractions like the Beijing Zoo and has convenient access to a metro station, which is a plus.
Dining
8.0
Breakfast was varied and offered both local and western options, though I would say the dining experience was pricey compared to nearby eateries.
Facilities
6.0
While I appreciated the amenities like room service and the rotating restaurant, the issues with my bathroom flooding and other minor inconveniences were disappointing.

5.8/10

My stay at Xiyuan Hotel was a mixed bag. The breakfast was delicious with a good variety, but I found the room and overall service to be quite lacking. I wouldn't rate it as a five-star hotel, and it felt more like a high standard three-star hotel to me.

Rooms
5.0
The rooms were dated and showed signs of wear, including flooding in the shower area and a musty smell. I expected better maintenance from a 5-star hotel.
Service
5.0
I found the staff to be unfriendly and communication to be challenging due to the language barrier. There were moments where I felt ignored or misunderstood.
Location
6.0
While it was conveniently located near attractions like the Beijing Zoo, it felt quite isolated and was not close to shopping or dining options. It's more suited to business travelers.
Dining
8.0
The breakfast offered a nice selection of both Western and Chinese options, which I appreciated. It helped start my day on a good note despite the room issues.
Facilities
6.0
Facilities were decent but the hotel itself felt outdated, lacking some of the amenities I expected. The internet was fast and free, which was a plus.

My stay at Xiyuan Hotel was a bit of a mixed bag. I loved the breakfast buffet, which had a good mix of Chinese and Western options, and found the location convenient for nearby attractions like the Beijing Zoo. However, the front desk service was lacking, and the condition of my room was far from what I'd expect from a five-star hotel.

Rooms
5.0
The room was of average size, but the furniture was damaged and the bed sheets were torn. It felt old and not very clean.
Service
5.0
Front desk staff were unfriendly and didn’t speak good English. I encountered issues with poor service at the restaurant too.
Location

The hotel is somewhat isolated, but it's close to the Beijing Zoo and public transport options, which was handy.
Dining

Breakfast was pretty decent, featuring chefs making dishes like noodle and wonton soup. However, the restaurant service was disappointing.
Facilities

The internet was fast and free, but the overall age of the hotel showed in the amenities.

5.2/10

I enjoyed my stay at Xiyuan Hotel, particularly the comfortable room and delicious breakfast options. However, the dated decor and some noise issues during renovations were disappointing. The hotel's location was convenient for nearby attractions like the zoo, yet it felt somewhat isolated from vibrant nightlife.

Rooms
7.0
The room was spacious and comfortable, but it felt dated and in need of renovation. The mattress was quite hard, which detracted from overall comfort.
Service
7.0
The staff were generally polite, although the language barrier made communication a bit challenging at times. Day-to-day service met my needs well.
Location
7.0
The hotel is conveniently located near attractions like the Beijing Zoo and several museums, but it's a bit far from the subway, making transport a little cumbersome.
Dining
9.0
The breakfast was impressive, with a variety of both Chinese and Western options available, and a great view from the dining area. The chefs even prepared noodles and wonton soup, which was a good touch.
Facilities
6.0
While the lobby was spacious and inviting, some common areas and my room showed signs of age, such as peeling gold on lamps and dated carpets. The hotel's amenities were decent but could use an update.

7.4/10

The Xiyuan Hotel provides decent accommodations at a budget price, though the outdated facilities and occasionally unfriendly service left much to be desired. With a good breakfast selection and proximity to the zoo, it's suitable for short stays. However, language barriers and issues with the room's maintenance can be frustrating.

Rooms
5.0
My room was old and had a musty smell, with maintenance issues like a leaking shower. While it was clean, it definitely felt dated and cramped.
Service
5.0
The front desk staff were generally unhelpful and not particularly friendly. I struggled with language barriers when needing assistance.
Location
6.0
The hotel is a bit isolated, but I appreciated its proximity to the Beijing Zoo and other nearby attractions. There isn't much within walking distance, though.
Dining
7.0
Breakfast offered a solid mix of Western and Chinese options, and the rotating restaurant at the top had some nice views. It was a satisfying start to the day.
Facilities
5.0
Facilities felt average, and the outdated decor didn’t provide the luxury I was expecting. Room service was okay, but not impressive.
